According to the International Air Transport Association (IATA), 2009 was the worst year in the history of civil aviation since World War II. Worldwide, passenger demand for the full year was down -3.5 per cent and freight showed a decline of -10.1 per cent which translates into a loss of 2.5 years of growth, in passenger markets, and 3.5 years of growth in the freight business.
