One organization’s application for membership was tabled while more research is done regarding the level of service offered and executed.  Questions were raised because of the low average fee amount reported.  There was concern that the level of search work being done was not senior enough.  This company was in Latin America.  Members of the Americas Council whose companies had offices in LA gave varying reports about average fee level.

The financial report showed revenue at about 8 percent ahead of budget for 2013.  Expenses were slightly lower than budget which resulted in a positive outlook for 2013 from a financial perspective.  BlueSteps is responsible for about 50 percent of the revenue.  Renewals in BlueSteps are averaging about 49 percent.

The Cornell Advanced Program for Executive Search Consulting was a success in 2012 and is scheduled to operate again in August of 2013.  Fee for the program has been about $7,500 and will likely be the same this year.

The AESC has also launched a training program in partnership with the RAIN Group.  This online course is taught by Andrew Sobel and is titled, “The Relationship Strategy Program”.  It consists of 24 modules and focuses on relationship building at the senior level.  If you are interested in learning more, please let me know.

A panel consisting of Kevin Connelly, CEO of Spencer Stuart, Trina Gordon, CEO of Boyden and Chuck Wardell, CEO of Witt/Kieffer discussed topics of interest.  Peter Felix posed questions for the panel, the opinions voiced by panel members were not always in agreement with each other.  All did agree that we all seem to be affected by the “in house” phenomenon taking place with many clients.  One opinion was the cause was related strictly to value while others opined that the reason for their growth was related to expense.  All agreed that the long term results are not predictable.

In a short discussion on the current “tools” such as LinkedIn and social media products,  the panel’s consensus was that these are minor influences on whether a company reaches out to search or not.  The heart of search is still the skill in listening to a client’s needs and matching with a candidate’s offerings.  The secret sauce is still in the intangible space.  In a personal discussion with one of the CEO’s, I found their opinion was that these “tools” are favored by those in that organization who tended toward a transaction flavored business model rather than a relationship model.  Typically these are younger associates who are still learning the business of search.

The Mintz Group presented its capabilities for background checks.  Several people confirmed and recommended their services.  Most members said their clients used the service directly.

In a recent ceremony with the presence of more than  100 top HR professionals, Carlos received the award. Carlos Sezões, 37, partner at Stanton Chase since May 2010, has been working for over a decade in the areas of Human Resources consultancy, particularly in projects of Executive Search, Talent Management, Executive Coaching and Employer Branding.

Stanton Chase International focused on strategic enhancements to its international search and leadership services at its 46^th Global Partners’ Meetings held in Istanbul, April 4 – 7.  Approximately 70  Stanton Chase Partners from around the world attended the Istanbul meetings.  Numerous business and industry leaders from Turkey and Europe also attended, continuing the Stanton Chase practice of working closely with industry leaders to understand their needs.

“These meetings are an important part of the continuing evolution of Stanton Chase as a leading international search  consultancy,” says George Cross, International Chairman.  “We highlight important areas of service that we want to address and develop.  Our meetings are also important for our Practice Groups, which meet and focus on the service and business issues in their sectors,” he said.

A highlight was the April 4  keynote presentation and panel discussion on the topic of matching strategy with board and c-suite hiring.  Held during a client reception attended by 200 partners, clients and guests from the Istanbul business community, this discussion highlighted the significance of aligning strategies and corporate governance methods in different regions, strategic hiring processes and the approach to C-Suite hiring.

The panel was moderated by Dr. Tommy Weir, Founder and Managing Director of the Emerging Markets Leadership Centre.  Panelists included:

Industry Practice Groups are integral to the Stanton Chase service approach and were the focus of all meetings on April 5.  Each group had its own breakout session which addressed client needs and trends in key sectors.

Another highlight was the Business Excellence working session on April 6 which presented several significant strategic initiatives to the Partners.  Each initiative focused on an important area of service and performance.  Topics included assessment, strategies for connecting effectively with clients, and the use of social media tools. Key presentations were delivered by:

• Joanne Sheldon, Relationship Manager at LinkedIn, on recruiter professional services;
• James Meyer, London-based consultant in strategy, innovation and training solutions, on best practices in strategic consulting;
• Dr. Tommy Weir, Founder and Managing Director of the Emerging Markets Leadership Centre, on dimensions of executive assessment.

Partners had time to discover and enjoy Istanbul and learn about the Turkish market. “Istanbul is one of the world’s fastest-growing megacities and business centres, and a treasure of history and culture,” said Cross.  “It was a pleasure to be here, to meet so many Turkish business leaders, and to experience the vitality of this great city,” he said.

The 47^th Stanton Chase International Global Partners’ meeting is scheduled for October 2013 in Moscow, Russia.

Following graduation, Griswold began his sales and marketing career with Eastman Chemical Products where he quickly rose to become a Regional Account Leader responsible for sales and customer account management in Minneapolis.
